On Saturday, October 11, the Peoria County Recorder of Deeds Office is participating in Goodwill of Central Illinois' Stand Down for Homeless Veterans event at Dozer Park from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Recorder's staff will be able to record military discharge papers (DD-214) on-site so veterans do not have to part with this important document. If a veteran records his or her discharge papers at the event, the Recorder's Office will provide certified copies of the DD-214 and a wallet card to help the vet remember where the document is on file. The wallet card can be presented at the Recorder's Office in the Peoria County Courthouse at any time to obtain additional certified copies of the DD-214.
Nancy Horton, Peoria County's Recorder of Deeds, continues to encourage veterans to record their military separation papers: "By recording their DD-214, veterans are assured this valuable document is kept in a safe place and that free certified copies will be readily available when needed."
For more information about recording military documents, please call the Recorder of Deeds Office at (309) 672-6090.
