Parties to a civil union may apply for and receive a marriage license and have the marriage solemnized and registered as a marriage, provided the parties are otherwise eligible to marry and the parties to the marriage are the same as the parties to the civil union. If your civil union license was issued in another county, we will need a certified copy of your civil union license. The application process is the same as for other marriages (please see above information), but there is no application fee in this instance. After your marriage, certified copies of your marriage license may be purchased. The first certified copy is $16.00, and additional copies are $7.00 each. CONVERSION OF A CIVIL UNION LICENSE TO A MARRIAGE
Until June 1, 2015, parties to a civil union may have their civil union legally designated and recorded as a marriage, provided the parties' civil union has not been dissolved, and there is no pending proceeding to dissolve the civil union. Both parties must apply for the conversion in our office. The effective date of the marriage will be the date on which the civil union was solemnized. If your civil union license was issued in another county, you must return to that county to process the conversion. There is no fee for this conversion. Please do not use the online application to apply for a conversion. After your marriage is recorded, certified copies of your marriage license may be purchased. The first certified copy is $16.00, and additional copies are $7.00 each.
